The New South Wales Police Force have taken delivery of their latest toy, this one courtesy of Ingolstadt, Germany. The Audi S7 Sportback, one of the fastest saloon cars on the Australian market, has been loaned to the Lake Illawarra LAC as part of their youth and community engagement programs.
Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Australia said, “We are pleased to continue to support the NSW Police Force as they engage with the youth and wider community in the Lake Illawarra region…
“Audi has been extraordinarily successful in Australia over the last decade, and so we are delighted to contribute back to the community in this way,”
The S7 Sportback, as you can see above, is one of the most striking cars in the NSW Police lineup. Thanks to a twin-turbo, 4.0L TFSI V8, the Audi produces 331Kw and 550Nm of torque – so don’t think of trying to outrun it in your Commodore or Falcon (unless you have a Sprint, but we don’t condone that kind of behaviour). That said, the Audi can ‘sprint’ to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds, so even the fastest Aussie muscle would be in for a challenge.
The aim of loaning the NSW Police the S7 is to inspire younger people to strike up a conversation with the Local Law Enforcement Officers. It’s not a Highway patrol car you will see on the roads per-say, but you will see it at numerous event around the region.
“The Audi S7 Sportback provides an exciting and visible platform for our community and youth engagement activities,” said Superintendent Zoran Dzevlan, Commander of Lake Illawarra LAC. “Our use of the S7 Sportback will encourage people of all ages to introduce themselves to local police, using the car itself to help start up a conversation.”
Personally, we all think this is a great idea! Every time I am at a race day or show where the Police have one of their hotted up cars, I always like to have a chat to them about it. Most of the officers are petrolheads and will go into excellent details of what their cars are capable of.
But with the Highway Patrol fleets of Falcon’s and Commodore’s aging fast, NSW Police need to seriously consider their options. My money is on BMW M series or even some fast Audi’s. But only time will tell.
