Volkswagen have made it clear – they have the most powerful Pick-Up on Australian roads.
The all new V6 Amarok was already set to have some poke, but Volkswagen’s latest specs show it is a long way ahead of it’s rivals. The standard power output from the Turbo-Diesel V6 is an already impressive 165Kw and 550Nm of torque.
But Volkswagen have followed Ford and fitted an over-boost function, lifting power to 180Kw and 580Nm of torque.
Kicking in at 70 per cent accelerator extension, the over-boost is optimised to be delivered in 3rd or 4th gear from 50km/h and sticks for 10 seconds. After a five second off time, over-boost can again be accessed.
It’s quick too. The Amarok V6 is capable of sprinting from a standstill to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds and – in controlled conditions – of accelerating from 80-120km/h in 5.5 seconds.
But don’t be fooled. The power plant isn’t a new VW invention. It’s the same engine Porsche and Audi have been using in their big SUV’s for years. So can sleep soundly knowing it will be reliable and as powerful as Volkswagen claim.
“The Amarok V6 is not an over-hyped concept or a badge engineering exercise,” Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Director Carlos Santos said. “It’s real, it’s almost here and it brings the world’s best V6 turbo diesel…”
With over 6000 enquiries received, Volkswagen has high hopes for this new pick-up. The V6 Amarok goes on sale from November 24. Full pricing and specs will be announced in the coming weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised to find it racing in the SuperUtes category in 2018.
