British Supercar maker McLaren have delivered the goods today, in the form of an online car builder.
The microsite went live this morning, allowing users to configure their own 720S the way they want to. 720s.mclaren.com allows you to jump on and get creative.
When you land at the site, you’re greeted by a quote from the greatest racing driver of all time, Ayrton Senna; “You think you have a limit. And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.”
Click “Begin” and the fun begins.
An animation zooms out, displaying the MonoCage II. It carries on until you’re sitting in the driver’s seat. Press the Engine Start button and the amazing dash comes to life, sliding out from its “slim” display state to the full screen. The car starts up and you see the digital tacho ping to 9,000rom.
What follows is a full walk through of the car including interior options, exteriors paints, wheel choices and the aerodynamic design of the state of the art supercar, before it lights up its tyres and drives off into the darkness. Then, you’re led to the configurator.
You have more options than you can possibly imagine. The combinations are endless and only limited by your imagination. There are 3 spec options, “Standard”, “Luxury” and “Performance”. There’s 34 colour options including the MSO (McLaren Special Operations) colours.
You can select your wheels, brakes, caliper colours and tyre types. You also have 14 exterior choices with sub-categories to select from.
Inside, you can change everything from the leather to the stitching colours to the steering column type.
You can opt for the standard stereo or the 12 speaker Bowers & Wilkins system and you can even select if you want track telemetry systems with 3 cameras mounted on the car. You also have safety and security options which range from parking sensors to vehicle lift abilities.
Basically, the only thing you can’t do is get a price, but then again, that’s not such a bad thing, because it prompts customers to get in touch with their local McLaren dealer, so smart move by McLaren there.
So, as well as learning about some of the McLaren 720S’ amazing performance features, such as Proactive Chassis Control II and getting an inside look at the new 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine, you can become the master of your McLaren destiny.
The 720S is available for order now, but with the amount of options available, I can only imagine the wait might be a little longer than a build-your-own burger at McDonald’s.
We can’t wait to see the car here in the flesh when it arrives later this year.
